The city of Bratislava is hosting a new edition of OFF Bratislava, the international festival of contemporary photography that, for seventeen years, has served as a platform for visibility and support for emerging talents in photography and new media. Entitled "White Noise ," the 2026 edition proposes a reflection on current media culture and the effects of the constant accumulation of images, data, and stimuli that shape how we perceive and interpret the world.

The festival, which will take place from November 6 to 20, will kick off its activities on the 6th at 6 pm at OD Prior, located at Kamenné námestie 1, one of the main venues for this event. The concept of white noise, originating in acoustics, refers to the simultaneous combination of all sound frequencies, without a defined center or hierarchy. Its origin also lies in the field of optics, where white light contains the entire color spectrum. Applied to the contemporary context, this idea becomes a metaphor for information overload: a scenario in which signals become confused, messages overlap, and excess ends up becoming the common landscape of our daily experience.

In a society subjected to a relentless barrage of stimuli, decisions, and impulses, abundance ceases to be synonymous with wealth and instead becomes a mental and sensory burden. The accumulation of images, objects, data, and content places our attention span under constant strain, fostering fatigue, distraction, and disorientation. In response to this reality, OFF Bratislava also proposes the possibility of developing new ways of reading: identifying patterns within the apparent randomness, establishing conscious filters, and reclaiming spaces for slowness and reflection.

From an artistic perspective, White Noise addresses these issues through fragmentation, the layering of languages, and the interrelation of different media. Digital distortion, glitches, interference, and hidden structures form part of a visual vocabulary that translates the complexity of our technological environment. Some pieces generate immersive experiences that place the visitor amidst this accumulation of images, sounds, textures, and materials. It's not so much about transforming chaos into an aesthetic resource as it is about making its physical and sensory dimension perceptible.

However, this intensity coexists with spaces of the opposite kind. Amidst the density, zones of silence and contemplation emerge, where reduction is presented as an active gesture, a way to reclaim the capacity to think and formulate ideas in the face of immediate reaction. The tension between noise and clarity thus constitutes one of the fundamental axes of the proposal, which not only questions information culture but also examines its mechanisms and transforms them into a spatial experience.

The program is structured around different sections: OFF Curated , OFF Academy , OFF Satellite , and OFF Libris , in addition to a program of parallel activities that expands the spaces for encounter and participation. Among these initiatives is a plant exchange planned for November 7th, a proposal that introduces a community and participatory dimension to the festival.

Spanish representation is significant in this edition. In the main section, OFF Curated, Alba Ruiz Lafuente and Jonàs Forchini are participating, along with Yoi Kawakubo, an artist with a career linked to both Japan and Spain. They are joined by Joan Alvado, who is part of OFF Libris, the section dedicated to self-published photographic works. This selection offers a glimpse into different approaches to contemporary photography and situates Spanish art within an international context of new visual narratives.

Also noteworthy in the international selection are names such as Penelope Umbrico, Gabriele Galimberti, Irina Werning, Alix Marie and Simon Faithfull, who bring different perspectives on the culture of the image and its transformations.
