The figure and legacy of Antoni Gaudí will be the focus of a day of reflection in Buenos Aires to mark the centenary of his death. Under the title "The Legacy of Antoni Gaudí in Buenos Aires ," the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia in the Southern Cone and the Ministry of Culture are promoting a meeting that will bring together different perspectives on the historical, philosophical, and architectural dimensions of one of the great figures of Catalan Modernism.
The initiative proposes approaching Gaudí's work from a perspective that transcends his recognition as an architect and allows for a deeper understanding of the foundations of his creative thinking. His unique relationship with nature, science, history, and Catalan culture shaped an architectural language of extraordinary originality, in which the observation of the natural world became an essential tool for investigating the forms, structures, and geometric laws that govern it.
The discussion will feature several panels addressing various aspects of his legacy. Thematic areas include a philosophical and historical approach to Gaudí's time, the development of modernism in Buenos Aires based on plans preserved in the City's Historical Archive, and the Catalan architect's influence on the evolution of modern architecture.
The event will also feature Josep Vives, the Catalan government's delegate to the Southern Cone, as part of the Gaudí Year celebrations in the Argentine capital. The gathering will conclude with a performance by the Casal de Catalunya Choir, thus incorporating the cultural and community dimension of the Catalan presence in Buenos Aires.
The celebration will take place on Tuesday, November 3rd, at 6:00 PM, at the Buenos Aires House of Culture, located at Avenida de Mayo 575. Admission is free, subject to room capacity.
