The body as a territory of experimentation, female identity as a space of freedom and creation as a way of questioning established limits. Mariaelena Roqué stars in a new episode of Inclassificables , the podcast hosted by Ricard Planas Camps on Catalunya Ràdio – 3Cat, with an artistic career that challenges conventional classifications and moves freely between disciplines.
A multidisciplinary artist, Roqué has built her own universe in which performance, sculpture, dance and costumes become tools to explore new forms of expression. Her practice, marked by provocation and experimentation, finds one of its most unique episodes in the collaboration with the musician Carles Santos, with whom she participated in proposals that broadened the horizons of the Catalan avant-garde. Her work claims the body as a creative instrument and questions aesthetic and social conventions from a radically free attitude.
The conversation takes place at the RocioSantaCruz Gallery in Barcelona, with its director, Rocío Santa Cruz, who provides another perspective on the territories of artistic experimentation. Gallerist, editor and promoter of ArtsLibris, Santa Cruz has developed a career focused on the visibility of artists and projects that explore contemporary languages, with special attention to photography, archives and artistic publishing. The gallery is thus configured as a space of confluence between generations, disciplines and diverse creative practices.
The dialogue between Roqué and Santa Cruz allows us to approach two complementary ways of understanding creation: from artistic practice that transcends disciplinary boundaries and from cultural mediation that opens spaces for new narratives and forms of art circulation. It is precisely at this crossroads where Inclassificables finds its meaning, giving voice to creators and cultural agents who stray from predictable paths.
Created, directed and hosted by Ricard Planas Camps, the podcast travels to art spaces, creative studios, museums and foundations across Catalonia to establish informative and relaxed conversations with relevant personalities from the cultural scene. Painting, sculpture, textiles, architecture, industrial design, photography and cinema are part of a broad map of practices and sensibilities.
