BRAFA 2027. Art, design and culture

BRAFA 2027. Art, design and culture

The Brussels Art Fair (BRAFA), one of the major events on the international art market, is finalizing its 72nd edition, to be held from January 24 to 31, 2027 at Brussels Expo. A total of 150 exhibitors from 18 countries—including two Spanish galleries, Jordi Pascuall (Barcelona) and Colnaghi (Madrid)—will participate, representing 27 disciplines and a selection that reflects one of its defining characteristics: diversity.

This plurality highlights "the essence of BRAFA as an essential meeting place for galleries, professionals, collectors, institutions, art enthusiasts, and art lovers," according to its president, Klaas Muller. Beyond the striking displays offered by each edition, this year's event blends a solid track record with a consistently bold and open approach to new perspectives.

The efficiency of its rigorous selection process not only highlights its appeal but also its importance on the exhibition calendar. In addition to the core group of participants from the previous edition who will renew their commitment to this event, this year's edition welcomes new galleries of renowned prestige and returning exhibitors, thus reinforcing its international profile and expanding the range of specialties represented.

Ancient art and sculpture; pre-Columbian or Asian art, tribal art—African, Oceanic…—, art Islamic art; paintings and drawings by Old Masters (14th to 17th, 18th and 19th centuries); modern and contemporary art; decorative arts and design of the 20th and 21st centuries; antiques, frames and furniture; clocks and scientific instruments; crystal and glass; goldsmithing and jewelry; vintage luxury and collectible items; graphic arts, engravings, manuscripts, rare books or maps; natural history; original comic book drawings; photography; porcelain and ceramics; tapestries, carpets and textiles…

Disparate disciplines coexist in singular harmony within a single space, fostering unprecedented journeys through different eras, cultures, and artistic languages. This is quite an achievement for a salon that, throughout its long history of over seven decades, has continuously incorporated new perspectives from the international scene and evolved in accordance with another of its core values: eclecticism.

New exhibitors

For the first time, BRAFA welcomes galleries such as Stems (Brussels), focused on emerging contemporary art; two Parisian galleries specializing in Asian art: Tiago and Guillaume Castellano; Galerie bei der Albertina - Zetter (Vienna), dedicated to Austrian art of the 20th and 21st centuries, from Art Nouveau to the Wiener Werkstätte; and Barovier&Toso (Venice), which perpetuates the artisanal tradition of Murano glassblowing since 1295.

The guest of honor this year is the Ixelles Museum, which will reopen in March 2027 after a decade of meticulous renovations. According to Claire Leblanc, the museum's director and curator, "the museum will thus connect its nearly 135-year commitment to art with an ever-evolving present, forging links between works, artists, and the public, just as it has always done." From its founding in the 19th century to the present day, the museum has preserved, documented, enriched, and, above all, shared its extensive collection of nearly 15,000 works of Belgian art.

This edition of BRAFA will also feature a full program of conferences, meetings with prominent figures, talks and presentations; as well as different cultural experiences, film series, guided tours and activities for all audiences.
