Josep Maria Mejan inaugurates the exhibition 'Forests of the Kitchen' in the Sala Àgora of the Cambrils City Council

The exhibition, curated by Alexandra Planas, presents 45 works by the artist around the relationship between the forest, cooking, nature and everyday life.

The Sala Àgora in Cambrils hosted this past Friday, September 25, at 8:00 p.m., the inauguration of the new temporary exhibition by Josep Maria Mejan (Barcelona, 1942), Forests of the Kitchen, within the framework of the seventh edition of the Biennial of Contemporary Gastronomic Art of Cambrils 2026.

The exhibition has been organized by the Cambrils City Council and Bonart Cultural, curated by Alexandra Planas, and presents a selection of 45 works by Mejan that revolve around the world of forests and cuisine, areas that serve the artist as a source of inspiration and space for reflection.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the mayor of Cambrils, Oliver Klein i Bosquet; the councilor for Culture, Carlos Caballero, and Alexandra Planas, who spoke on behalf of Mejan, who was unable to attend for health reasons.

With this new proposal, the Cambrils City Council and Bonart continue to promote the dissemination of artistic creation and offer spaces for the exhibition of contemporary art in the municipality.

Relationship between nature and everyday life

Through this artistic project we can get closer to Mejan's universe, and especially to his way of looking at cooking, his gestures, his knowledge, his ingredients and that ability to turn the routine into a personal experience.

The exhibition offers us a poetic and sensorial look at the relationship that exists between nature and everyday life, focusing on the forest as a symbolic space and, on the other hand, on the kitchen as an intimate place of transformation.

Through this relationship, Mejan constructs a world where natural elements filter into the domestic space, generating new narratives about landscape, memory and daily rituals.

Regarding the origin of this exhibition, Mejan explained that he conceived it during the course of the pandemic. In the words of the painter: "One day during Covid-19 I opened my kitchen cupboard and put on paper the ingredients I found there, such as pepper, salt, turmeric, wine, etc., using the watercolor technique I composed an entire collection of 45 pieces that we wanted to bring to Cambrils. The result is an exhibition with a very interesting plastic and chromatic work that goes very well with the seventh edition of the Biennial of Contemporary Gastronomic Art of Cambrils 2026".

In this way, Boscos de la cuina remains open to the public and can be visited until November 13, 2026, from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. On weekends and holidays, the room is closed.
