MNACTEC reopens renewed and broadens its perspective on technology
After eleven months of work, the museum is back in operation with new air conditioning, energy efficiency improvements and three exhibitions covering robotics, ultrasound and the history of Montesa.
After eleven months of work, the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) reopens its doors with a renovation that affects both the facilities and the contents and spaces intended for the public. The intervention has allowed the air conditioning system to be updated, energy efficiency measures to be incorporated and various improvements to be introduced to enrich the visitor experience, while the museum resumes its activity with a new exhibition proposal.
The reopening includes three temporary exhibitions that expand the MNACTEC's perspectives on the relationship between science, technology, society and industrial heritage. One of the main novelties is Robots. From Leonardo's automata to the humanoids of the future , an exhibition that offers a journey through the history and evolution of robotics, from the first automata to the developments that point towards the humanoids of the future. Through a selection of around seventy pieces, the exhibition allows us to get closer to the different uses of robotics and also raises some of the challenges and possibilities that this technology opens up for the transformation of society.
Health and technology are the starting point of Ultrasounds: from nature to medicine , an exhibition produced by the Radiology Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. The exhibition explains what ultrasounds are and how a phenomenon present in nature has been incorporated into the development of different medical applications. The tour places special emphasis on their diagnostic and therapeutic functions and allows you to discover the evolution of a technology that today occupies a central place in numerous areas of medicine.
The third major novelty is VIVA Montesa , an exhibition that reviews the trajectory of one of the most emblematic brands of the Catalan and Spanish motorcycle industry. The proposal is presented renewed on the occasion of Montesa's 80th anniversary and recovers the history of a company closely linked to the industrial, technological and social evolution of the country. The motorcycles and the elements associated with the brand allow us to follow different stages of a trajectory that is part of the Catalan industrial memory.
The renovation of the museum also extends to its permanent and reception spaces. Among the actions carried out is the creation of a new exhibition space dedicated to El Vapor Aymerich, Amat i Jover , the building that houses the MNACTEC and which constitutes, in itself, a fundamental piece of Catalan industrial heritage. The intervention allows us to delve deeper into the history of the building and its significance within the country's industrial heritage as a whole.
The entrance hall also incorporates a new rotating space intended to display objects from the museum's collections. The proposal will allow the pieces on display to be periodically modified and offer visitors a changing approach to the funds preserved by the institution. This initiative is complemented by a new audiovisual space dedicated to the MNACTEC collections, designed to publicize the diversity and scope of the scientific, technical and industrial heritage that the museum holds.
