The Viceroy claims the validity of Joan Hernández Pijuan with 'Complicitats'
A round table will bring together Valentín Roma, Javier Hontoria, Salvador Saura and Elvira Hernández on September 18 to present a publication that reviews the artist's legacy and current affairs.
The Virreina Image Center is dedicating a day to Joan Hernández Pijuan to mark the twenty years of the artist's absence. Next Friday, September 18, at 7 p.m., Espai 4 will host the presentation of Complicitats , a publication that proposes to recover his figure from a perspective far removed from nostalgia and to claim the validity of a fundamental work for understanding contemporary Spanish art.
The presentation will adopt a round table format and will feature the participation of Valentín Roma, Javier Hontoria, Salvador Saura and Elvira Hernández, head of the Hernández Pijuan Legacy, with Àngels de la Mota as moderator. The meeting will address different issues related to the artist's legacy, from its conservation and management to the transmission of his memory and the presence of his work in the current artistic context.
Driven by Valentín Roma and designed by Salvador Saura and Pau Aguilar, Complicitats has the support of the Hernández Pijuan family and brings together the contributions of 32 authors, who share their own approaches to the artist and his production. The result does not seek to construct a closed retrospective, but to generate a choral conversation around a work that continues to establish links with the present.
The publication combines these texts with a selection of photographs from the personal archive of Hernández Pijuan and other authors. Many are unpublished and allow us to get closer to the painter's most intimate spaces, building a visual journey that complements the different voices gathered in the volume.
The presentation of Complicitats thus raises a reflection that goes beyond the publication and delves into the ways in which an artist's memory is constructed and transmitted. Twenty years after his death, Hernández Pijuan's work continues to generate readings, complicities and new approaches, demonstrating that his legacy remains open and active.
The event will take place in Space 4 of La Virreina Center de la Imatge on Friday, September 18 at 7 p.m. Admission will be free until capacity is reached.
