FITAG 2026 successfully closes its twenty-sixth edition in Girona
The Girona International Amateur Theatre Festival has brought together 3,405 spectators in this edition.
The Girona International Amateur Theatre Festival (FITAG) has concluded its twenty-sixth edition, held from August 25 to 30, 2026, with a very positive balance. With a total of 3,405 attendees, the festival has become a meeting point for Catalan, national and international amateur theatre, with performances in Girona and other municipalities such as Caldes de Malavella, la Cellera de Ter, Sant Gregori, Sant Pere Pescador and Vidreres.
During the six days of the festival, around twenty shows have been scheduled, of which six have sold out in Girona, including works such as Manual de la buena esposa , Bukowski and Comedia sin título at the Sant Narcís Civic Centre, and Els meus dimonis i jo , Felicità and Marat-sade at the Casa de Cultura de la Diputació de Girona. Most of the shows have registered a very high occupancy rate, with great interest from the public.
FITAG Connection and cultural diversity
Under the motto "FITAG Connection", this edition has emphasized the connection between companies, artists, territories and audiences, thus reinforcing the festival's objective of generating a space for cultural and artistic exchange. In addition to the Catalan companies, international groups from Anykščiai (Lithuania), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Geneva (Switzerland), Monaco, Riga (Latvia) and Yerevan (Armenia) have participated.
The FITAG Off, a proposal that was born the previous year, has continued to grow, with a closing day at the La Planeta theater in Girona, where theater groups from the Girona regions performed, bringing together 328 spectators, a figure significantly higher than that of the first edition.
Accessibility and new features
One of the novelties this year was the FITAG program at the Day Centers, where the Teatre de Butxaca company from Sant Feliu de Guíxols offered the play Gràcies, mestre! at the Maria Gay Geriatric Center and the Sanitas Residency in Girona. The artistic director, Xavier Albertí, highlighted the commitment to accessibility, with shows adapted for people with blindness and deafness, as well as works with Catalan or English subtitles.
FITAG is organized by the Girona Provincial Council, with the collaboration of the Generalitat de Catalunya and Girona City Council, and for the fourth consecutive year, the artistic direction has been in charge of Baowatt. The success of this edition reaffirms the festival as a benchmark for amateur theater, with a loyal audience attracted by the diversity of genres and formats it offers.
