The renowned Catalan artist Perico Pastor (la Seu d'Urgell, 1953) presents his new temporary exhibition, entitled Selves i Mars , in the Sala Galatea of the Alàbriga Hotel & Spa in Sant Feliu de Guíxols next Friday, August 28, at 6:30 p.m. After the inauguration, the Alàbriga Hotel & Spa has organized a cocktail for all attendees and a dinner with a special menu for the occasion, together with the artist, on the terrace of the Sea Club of this luxurious hotel complex.

This exhibition brings together a very careful selection of some of the most outstanding works that Perico Pastor has created over the last three years. The exhibition has been curated by Alexandra Planas, cultural manager, with the collaboration of the management of the Alàbriga Hotel & Spa and Svetlana Scherer.

The exhibition Selves i Mars brings together approximately fifteen representative works from the career of the Catalan painter, made with the techniques of marouflage and watercolor. The pieces show the artist's creative vitality and his ability to explore new forms, colors and compositions without losing the traits that characterize his artistic and professional career.

The predominance of blue, green and yellow colours in the jungles and seas that Pastor recreates combines expressive intensity with great visual lightness. In this exhibition, the main theme is nature, formal freedom, an abundance of colour and an imagery that suggests everything from seascapes to forests and jungles, with a visual energy that surprises and, at the same time, recreates very open scenes.

In short, Pastor relates two natural universes—vegetation and water—which he interprets from his own perspective, far from a strictly descriptive representation. The works on display in this exhibition belong to the series Gran Cap , El riu sempre , Gran Selva and Kavafis .

On the other hand, works from the Balls de Saló series have also been installed in the hotel, consisting of the pieces Suau , Cariño and Mou . This is an artistic project that Pastor conceived in 1983 and that was reinterpreted forty years later by the Estampa Gallery in Madrid. The series pays homage to his career of works inspired by movement and dance. In these paintings, Perico recreates the rhythm of a pair of dancers with his dynamic and gestural strokes.

It should be noted that all of these works have been conceived and developed, in large part, from his workshop in Poblenou, a Barcelona space that has been the center of his creative activity for years.

The Poblenou workshop occupies a particularly significant place in Pastor's artistic life. This space has become a kind of permanent laboratory where finished works, drawings, books and working materials coexist. In short, for Perico, his workshop is like "a second home".

Perico Pastor, between Barcelona and New York

Perico Pastor was born in La Seu d'Urgell in 1953 and is a painter, draftsman and illustrator. After his early years of training in Barcelona, in 1976 he moved to New York, where he lived for approximately twelve years and developed an important career as an illustrator. During that period he collaborated with publications such as The New York Times , Harper's Magazine , Vogue and The Village Voice .

His first solo exhibition took place in 1980 at the Cornelia Street Café in New York. Three years later he exhibited for the first time in a commercial gallery, Galeria Estampa in Madrid. Since then, his work has been presented in numerous cities, including Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Miami, Hong Kong, Beijing and Lleida.

Since his return to Barcelona, Pastor has maintained a dual activity as a painter and illustrator. He has collaborated with El País , La Vanguardia , El Periódico and International Herald Tribune , and has also participated in numerous editorial projects. Among his most outstanding works is the illustration of the Bible published by Enciclopèdia Catalana, a project that gave rise to more than a thousand drawings.

In 1993 he received the Morera Medal from the Lleida City Council for his body of work and, in 1997, the Special Prize from the Spanish Olympic Committee at the Biennial of Sports in Fine Arts. His professional career is considered one of the most important in contemporary Catalan figurative art.

The exhibition will be open until October 4th and admission is free for visitors. In addition to the usual visiting hours at the hotel, there is the possibility of arranging a prior visit with the curator, an option that allows you to approach the artist's work in a more personalized way.
