Music will once again take to the open air of Girona this Saturday, August 22, at 8 p.m., with the presence of Chinese pianist Zhiqiao Zhang, winner of the Lluís Coromina Isern Foundation Award at the 71st edition of the Maria Canals International Music Competition.
The recognition, granted once again within the framework of the Concert Awards section, allows one of the finalists of the prestigious competition to offer a performance within the summer program of the Girona Auditorium. On this occasion, the award has gone to Zhang, who will perform in the Notes al parc cycle, promoted by the Girona Auditorium and La Marfà-Centre de Creació, on the Passeig de la Sardana.
Born in China, Zhiqiao Zhang is considered one of the most outstanding performers of his generation. His participation in the Maria Canals has highlighted a way of understanding the piano based on the balance between technical precision, expressive depth and musical maturity.
The jury of the competition particularly valued his interpretative ability, as well as a refined technique that allows him to move through highly demanding repertoires with remarkable expressive freedom. His career, developed on international stages and recognized in several prestigious competitions, has placed him among the young pianists with the most projection on the current scene.
In Girona, Zhang will present a program that will explore the works of Robert Schumann, Enrique Granados and Sergei Prokofiev. Three different musical universes that will allow us to discover the multiple facets of a performer who combines sensitivity and virtuosity and who understands each score as a space to explore emotions, landscapes and memories.
The Lluís Coromina Isern Foundation Award thus reinforces the foundation's desire to give continuity to the careers of young talents who pass through the Maria Canals Competition, offering them new scenarios in which to grow their artistic voice.
