Swab 2026 vindicates the galleries that redefine the present of contemporary art
The Barcelona fair, which will be held from October 8 to 11, presents a General Program where consolidated galleries, self-managed spaces and experimental initiatives coexist that outline a more plural and sustainable artistic ecosystem.
The gallery ecosystem is experiencing a moment of profound transformation, and Swab once again makes this reality the guiding thread of its General Program. The fair is committed to a reading of the contemporary panorama in which the boundaries between consolidated galleries, independent spaces and artist-managed initiatives are becoming increasingly permeable, configuring a more open, experimental and attentive model to the new contexts of production and circulation of art.
Far from understanding the market and experimentation as opposing spheres, Swab proposes a meeting space where both complement each other. Commercial galleries explore increasingly risky languages, while independent projects develop new strategies for sustainability and seek to expand their reach. This converging movement shapes a more diverse ecosystem, in which innovation and access to contemporary art become central axes of the debate.
The presence of numerous galleries in Barcelona also confirms the city's role as one of the main creative laboratories in southern Europe. Participating in this edition are 200CENT + Fundació Uniques, ADN Galería, BETA Contemporary, Dilalica, ESCAT Gallery, EtHall, EXs, FOC, Halfhouse, Malpais, Palmadotze and Rocio Santa Cruz, to which are added projects from other parts of the State such as Batec (Valencia), Tha House (Madrid) or Ventana Project, based between Spain and Germany.
The international character continues to be one of the great distinguishing features of the fair. The General Program brings together galleries from Europe, America and Asia, including Abbozzo Gallery and Cry Baby (Canada), Art Agenda (Jakarta), Azotea (Argentina), Bacio, Les Pralines, L'Espace Annexe and Widefield (Switzerland), CRUX (Ireland), MATTER (Japan), Northing Space (Norway), Tiger Strikes Asteriod (United States), Wach Kunstraum (Germany) and Weeseitems (Georgia). Also outstanding is the collaboration between Letravia and ONEART Gallery, which strengthens the dialogue with the Asian art scene.
Beyond its commercial dimension, Swab consolidates a fair model that gives prominence to emerging practices and spaces that have traditionally operated on the margins of the market. These initiatives are, today, some of the main drivers of new discourses in contemporary art, proposing alternative forms of production, collaboration and sustainability that question conventional models.
The new edition of Swab Barcelona, which will take place from October 8 to 11, thus reinforces its commitment to a more plural and connected international art scene.
