The Bogotá International Art and City Biennial presents the curatorial team of BOG27
The Bogotá International Art and City Biennial has begun to shape its second edition with the presentation of the curatorial committee that will shape the artistic project of BOG27. Under the direction of Juan Ricardo Rincón Gaviria, the team brings together prominent professionals in the field of contemporary art with extensive national and international experience, reinforcing the Colombian capital's commitment to making the biennial one of the major cultural events in Latin America.
The committee will be composed of Magali Arriola and José Esparza Chong Cuy as chief curators, accompanied by Juliana Steiner and María Paula Bastidas as associate curators. The team is completed by Elkin Rubiano, responsible for public programs and outreach, an area that seeks to strengthen the connection between the biennial, the public, and different urban territories.
The curatorial proposal for BOG27 invites reflection on the fragility and interdependence among species, presenting a view of the city as a space for encounters, shared narratives, and multiple forms of life. The project aims to expand the relationship between art, public space, and community, positioning Bogotá as a stage for dialogue between contemporary artistic practices and the social and environmental challenges of the present.
The new edition takes over from BOG25, held between September 20 and November 9, 2025. That first biennial proposed viewing Bogotá as a work of art in itself, inviting people to discover architecture and urban spaces that often go unnoticed in the fast pace of daily life. With all its exhibitions, interventions, academic activities, and free public programs, BOG25 consolidated a model open to citizen participation and transformed urban space into a laboratory for creation and reflection.
