Samuel Salcedo resonates in Sant Feliu
'ECO' transforms the Monastery Gardens into a landscape of sculpture, memory and silence.
The Espai Carmen Thyssen presents ECO. Samuel Salcedo , a sculptural intervention specially conceived for the Gardens of the Monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, in collaboration with Villazan Gallery and within the framework of the Village of the Porta Ferrada Occident Festival. The project turns this heritage space into a setting for dialogue between contemporary art, nature and architecture, offering the visitor an immersive experience between visible presences and suggested absences.
Inspired by Eco's myth, Samuel Salcedo's proposal proposes a journey in which sculptures emerge among the vegetation of the gardens as silent figures that modify the perception of the environment. The works not only occupy the space, but also establish a relationship with it, generating an atmosphere where the gaze, memory and silence become essential elements.
The project also incorporates references to the myths of Narcissus and Orpheus, constructing a symbolic universe around identity, voice, memory and the impossibility of retaining what disappears. The exhibition invites the public to travel through a physical and emotional landscape where each sculpture acts as a latent presence, between contemplation and enigma.
Known for his human figures of great psychological intensity, Samuel Salcedo develops a work situated on the border between the recognizable and the disturbing. His faces, heads and bodies explore the complexity of the human experience through a gaze that combines fragility, strength and vulnerability.
Using materials such as aluminum, iron, concrete, foundry sand or recycled elements, the artist constructs sculptures that reflect on the passage of time, transformation, memory and the human condition. His figures seem to capture a moment of emotional tension, as if they were silent witnesses to stories yet to be revealed.
ECO. Samuel Salcedo can be visited as a permanent exhibition during the scheduled dates: July 10 and 11, July 17 and 18, July 24, 25 and 26, and from July 31 to August 23, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the Gardens of the Monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
