Mas Miró opens a new stage to activate Joan Miró's legacy from the territory and contemporary creation

The incorporation of Cèlia del Diego into the management marks a new impetus for the Mas Miró Foundation, which reinforces the role of the farmhouse as a space for heritage, research, artistic production and dialogue with contemporary times.

Mas Miró opens a new stage to activate Joan Miró's legacy from the territory and contemporary creation

The Mas Miró Foundation begins a new stage with the arrival of Cèlia del Diego to the directorship, a change that aims to consolidate the Mas as a reference space where Miró's heritage dialogues with the territory, research and contemporary creation. Far from proposing a break with the path taken so far, the new directorship is committed to broadening the horizon of the project and deepening the potential of Mas Miró as a living place, capable of activating new readings of Joan Miró's creative universe.

The presentation of this new stage took place this morning at Mas Miró and was attended by Cèlia del Diego herself; the president of the Foundation, Fran Morancho; the president of the Miró Estate, Joan Punyet Miró; and the artist Lola Lasurt, author of one of the interventions that inaugurate this new cycle. The symbolic and programmatic starting point of this phase is OBSESSIONANT. Joan Miró and sculpture in Mont-roig , a project that relates the artist's sculptural production with the landscape, objects and creative processes linked to the Mas.

The new director's proposal is to strengthen the role of Mas Miró not only as a house museum, but also as a space for research, production and artistic dissemination. In this sense, Del Diego has stressed that the challenge is to "continue to take care of Miró's legacy and, at the same time, activate it". For the new director, the Mas is a privileged place to understand the artist, but also a space from which to "generate new questions, promote creative processes and build new relationships with the territory, artists and contemporary culture".

This perspective places Mas Miró in a unique position within the Miró Triangle. While the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona preserves and projects the artist's work, and the Fundació Miró Mallorca promotes training and research, Mas Miró brings the dimension of the original place: the space where much of his imagination was developed. The landscape of Mont-roig, the workshops, the house and the everyday objects that fueled Miró's work turn this place into a privileged laboratory for exploring new forms of knowledge and creation.

Fran Morancho wanted to frame this handover in a line of continuity, appreciating the work done by Elena Juncosa Vecchierni at the head of the Foundation in recent years. According to the president, Del Diego's arrival represents an opportunity to continue strengthening the project and prepare a new stage that will have a prominent moment in the tenth anniversary of the Foundation, scheduled in two years. Morancho has shown himself convinced that the new director will bring her own mark capable of opening new paths without losing the essence of Mas Miró.

From the Miró Estate, Joan Punyet Miró has defined this appointment as "an important moment for the Miró family, for the Miró Triangle and for the territory", and has highlighted the value of the three Mirón foundations being today led by people linked to their respective territorial contexts, a fact that he considers key for the future of the institutions.

The first visible manifestation of this new stage is, precisely, OBSESSIONANT. Joan Miró and sculpture in Mont-roig , a project inspired by a phrase by the writer Marià Manent after a visit to the painter at the Mas in 1948: “It's obsessive, Miró, obsessive!”. Based on this idea, the Foundation is developing a proposal that connects Miró's sculptural work with found objects, materials and the landscape of Mont-roig, and which is developed through three complementary lines.

On the one hand, the exhibition The Soul of Form. Mont-roig or the Essence of Miró , which opens at the Església Vella Cultural Center in Mont-roig, explores the link between the territory and the artist's formal universe. On the other hand, the artist Lola Lasurt signs the intervention Els objectes del Mas es desperten de nit (a Jeux d'enfants) , conceived specifically for the chapel and gazebo of Mas Miró. The project is completed with the family workshop Angelina's Doll is the Equilibrist's , a cultural mediation proposal that recovers the history of one of the objects that Joan Miró transformed into sculpture.

With this initiative, the Mas Miró Foundation opens a line of work that takes heritage not as a closed or contemplative space, but as a starting point to generate new narratives and forms of relationship with the present. The aim is to turn the Mas into a territory of creation, a space where Miró's memory continues to challenge artists, researchers and audiences from a contemporary perspective.
