The Barcelona Provincial Council has approved a new sectoral program for the restoration of architectural heritage, which will allocate more than 2 million euros to the Vallès Oriental. This initiative is part of a total budget of 27.5 million euros that will be distributed until 2027 for the conservation and improvement of buildings of historical, cultural and architectural interest in the region.

The aid, which amounts to a total of 2,696,755.03 euros, will benefit several municipalities, including Aiguafreda, Bigues i Riells, Caldes de Montbui, Castellcir, Cànoves i Samalús, Llinars del Vallès, Lliçà de Vall, Roca del Vallès, Sant Feliu de Codines, Sant Pere de Vilamajor, Santa Maria de Palautordera and Vilanova del Vallès.

The planned actions include the restoration of the Masia de Can Coromines in Bigues i Riells del Fai, as well as the rehabilitation of the old Carme school in Caldes de Montbui. The deputy for Equipment, Urban Infrastructure and Architectural Heritage, Marc Castells, has highlighted the importance of restoring local architectural heritage, stating that “these elements that form part of the historical memory of a community are not lost and reach future generations in the best conditions”.

Furthermore, Castells stressed that these interventions are not only fundamental for the conservation of heritage, but also represent a source of economic, tourist and cultural development for the territory.

Architectural and archaeological heritage is a key element for the identity of municipalities, and for this reason, the program seeks to support the recovery of unique buildings, castles, palaces, churches, monasteries, bridges, aqueducts, archaeological sites, historical gardens and spaces linked to democratic memory. In recent years, the Provincial Council has invested more than 60 million euros in the restoration and recovery of architectural and archaeological heritage, thus reinforcing its commitment to the conservation of local heritage.

This action falls within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG number 8, “Decent work and economic growth”, and 11, “Sustainable cities and communities”, reaffirming the Provincial Council's commitment to sustainable development and social cohesion in the region.
