Bunny: between intimacy and representation

Bunny: between intimacy and representation
bonart madrid - 15/06/26

The exhibition Bunny , by American photographer Talia Chetrit, brings together nearly three decades of work in a project that invites reflection on the construction of images and the way we observe others. Presented at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum as part of the PHotoESPAÑA 2026 program, it is the artist's first major solo exhibition in Spain.

The selection includes portraits, still lifes, and staged photographs that engage in a dialogue with one another, not arranged chronologically. Images created at different points in her career appear together to forge new relationships and interpretations. In this way, past and present intertwine in a visual sequence open to multiple interpretations. Throughout the exhibition, Chetrit explores themes related to identity, sexuality, family, and personal experience. Her photographs feature friends, family, and the artist herself in scenes that oscillate between spontaneity and staging. Vulnerability, desire, and the representation of the body emerge as recurring elements, treated with a direct gaze that avoids definitive answers.

Bunny pays particular attention to the photographic act itself. In many of the pieces, the mechanisms of image production are made visible, reminding the viewer that every photograph involves a construction. The boundary between document and fiction remains deliberately blurred, generating a constant tension between the real and the represented.

The exhibition, open until August 30, combines small black and white prints, which encourage close observation, with large-format photographs whose physical presence transforms the experience of the exhibition space. The result is an intense and evocative journey that confirms Talia Chetrit as one of the most singular voices in contemporary photography.
