The Tarragona Provincial Council Art and Culture Centre, with headquarters in Tortosa and Valls, is beginning a new stage focused on strengthening contemporary creation through artistic residency programs and cultural mediation. This transformation represents the natural evolution of the former School of Art and Culture, which has consolidated itself as a key facility in the educational and cultural field of the territory, with a program open to the public and an active presence in the cultural dynamism of Terres de l'Ebre, Camp de Tarragona and Baix Penedès.
The president of the Tarragona Provincial Council, Noemí Llauradó, accompanied by the deputy for Social and Cultural Promotion, Óscar Sánchez, recently visited the center's Tortosa headquarters, coinciding with a day of interaction between the first resident artist, Josep Poblet i Ventura, and the students of the Ceramics Workshop. This meeting exemplifies one of the first co-creation experiences promoted within the new residency program.
The artistic residency project was launched in 2026 with a pilot test with three invited artists: Josep Poblet Ventura, Pep Escoda and Sarah Misselbrook. This initial phase allows testing a model that foresees, from 2027, the opening of a public call to select new artistic proposals to be developed at the Tortosa headquarters.
The resident artists will have conceptual and technical support, equipped work spaces, access to specialized workshops, as well as financial and material support to develop their projects. The resulting works will later be integrated into the programming of the Tarragona Provincial Council's Network of Cultural Spaces, promoting their dissemination throughout the territory. In addition, the program encourages the creation of synergies with other professionals, artists and communities linked to the center.
In the case of Josep Poblet Ventura, the project developed under the title A Day at the Farm connects several workshops at the center—ceramics, stained glass, restoration of ethnological heritage and photography—in a collaborative and interdisciplinary work process.
At the same time, the Center for Art and Culture also promotes a Cultural Mediation Program that seeks to consolidate the social dimension of art and strengthen the link with the public. This line of work, initiated in recent months, is committed to community artistic projects and collaborative practices with an inclusive approach.
Within this framework, during 2026 collaborations have already been established with local entities such as the Pere Mata Foundation and the Blanquerna Foundation, which exemplify the center's desire to extend art as a tool for participation and social cohesion.
