The Girona Cinema Museum was present this Wednesday in Lisbon at the Encontros no ANIM 2026 symposium, a European event that focuses on the future of moving image museums and film heritage. This meeting was organized by the Arquivo Nacional das Imagens em Movimento (ANIM) in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema.

The conference brought together researchers, curators and professionals from the sector to debate new models of conservation, exhibition and dissemination of film collections in a context of technological transformation. Montse Puigdevall Noguer, curator of the Cinema Museum, participated in an international round table entitled “Moving Image Museums: European Examples”, where she shared experiences and management models with representatives of two of the most important film museums in Europe: the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin and the DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum in Frankfurt.

Quim Ayats Bartrina, deputy mayor and councilor for Culture of Girona City Council, highlighted the importance of this participation, considering it a recognition of the rigorous work carried out in Girona in the preservation and dissemination of cinematographic heritage. Ayats added that sharing experiences with such prominent institutions strengthens the international projection of the Girona museum and opens up new opportunities for collaboration.

The debates of the day addressed key issues such as the challenges of conserving collections of cinematographic equipment and objects, new museological paradigms and the current role of moving image museums in the educational and cultural field. The participation of the Cinema Museum alongside other leading institutions in Europe not only reaffirms its international positioning, but also vindicates its trajectory in the preservation and dissemination of cinematographic heritage.

The meeting was an opportunity to exchange working methodologies and explore new ways of collaboration between European museums and film libraries, an important step towards strengthening the film heritage network on the continent.
