LUMÍNIC 2026: photography as a poetic language in Sant Cugat

From May 29 to July 12, the LUMÍNIC Festival will once again turn Sant Cugat del Vallès into a great stage dedicated to author photography. Since its birth in 2019, the event has consolidated itself as one of the essential meeting points for lovers of contemporary images, deploying a program that combines exhibitions, talks, workshops and round tables with a clear inclusive and participatory will.

Under the concept of La Poética , this new edition proposes a profound look at the capacity of photography to excite, suggest and transform the perception of the world. The festival poses poetics not only as a literary quality, but as an essential dimension of any artistic language: that force capable of going beyond representation and connecting with the sensitivity and imagination of the viewer.

The exhibition program will be one of the main focuses of the festival, with prominent names such as Antoni Campañà, Ferran Freixa, Aleix Plademunt, Irene Visa, Francesc Català-Roca, Adeline Rush or Elisa de Stermich, among many other artists who will explore different approaches to contemporary and documentary photography.

Among the most anticipated proposals is the participation of Irene Visa, who will present the book Abaix hi ha herba, a dalt roques , the result of the research residency developed during 2024 at the Barcelona Photographic Archive. The presentation will take place on Sunday, May 31 as part of the festival's programming, in a conversation with the editor Bernat Millet and the director of the archive, Oleguer Benaiges.

This edition of LUMÍNIC emphasizes a photography that escapes simple documentary representation to enter more intimate and evocative territories. The poetic gaze in contemporary photography is manifested here through images that explore memory, mystery, fragility and emotional landscapes. The works invite a slower and more sensitive contemplation, opening spaces of interpretation where the visible becomes only the starting point.
