The night when art opens up to everyone: Fundación MAPFRE celebrates International Museum Day in Madrid
bonart madrid - 14/05/26

To mark International Museum Day, the Mapfre Foundation is once again joining this international celebration with a special day dedicated to art and cultural exchange. On May 16, the institution will extend the opening hours of its Madrid headquarters until 11:00 p.m. and offer free admission from 8:00 p.m., inviting the public to enjoy its exhibitions in a unique and welcoming atmosphere.

The initiative is part of the special programming promoted each year by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), an organization that commemorates this event to highlight the essential role of museums as spaces for cultural exchange, dialogue, and understanding between societies. Based on this premise, numerous cultural centers around the world organize special activities to bring artistic heritage closer to new audiences and foster a closer relationship with culture.

In this context, Fundación MAPFRE will transform its Madrid headquarters into a meeting point for those who wish to enjoy art at night. The initiative will allow visitors to leisurely explore two outstanding exhibitions currently on display: Anders Zorn. Traveling the World, Remembering the Earth and Helen Levitt .

The exhibition dedicated to Anders Zorn offers a comprehensive look at the work of the celebrated Swedish artist, internationally renowned for his portraits, genre scenes, and landscapes imbued with a sensitivity to light. The exhibition traces different stages of his career and reveals how his travels and his connection to nature profoundly shaped his creative universe.

Meanwhile, the Helen Levitt exhibition introduces visitors to the work of one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century. Her images, focused especially on everyday life on the streets of New York, capture urban scenes brimming with humanity, humor, and emotion with a poetic and spontaneous eye.
