Girona is transformed with 141 floral projects in the 71st edition of Temps de Flors 2026

Since May 9th, the 71st edition of Girona, Temps de Flors 2026, has been held, in which this year a total of 141 floral projects are participating, spread across 113 spaces in the city of Girona. This event, which is one of the most emblematic events in the Girona cultural calendar, will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the Flors de Nit section until 11:00 p.m., from Sunday to Friday, and until midnight on Saturdays.

In parallel with the festival, musical activities, cultural proposals, decorated shops and gastronomic offers linked to the festival will also be held. One of the novelties of this edition is the inauguration that took place in the Jardins dels Alemanys with a tribute to the Associació Amics de les Flors de Girona, an entity historically linked to the organization and coordination of the event.

In addition, this year special references have been incorporated to Antoni Gaudí, for the centenary of his death, and to Pau Casals in the context of the 150th anniversary of his birth.

The mayor of Girona, Lluc Salellas i Vilar, wanted to highlight that "this year, we commemorate the ten years since Narcís-Jordi Aragó, an emblematic writer of the city, left us. The famous book that he wrote together with Jaume Guillamet, Pius Pujades and Just Casero baptized Girona as gray and black. And it is clear that Temps de Flors is the parenthesis in which all the colors fill the city, but the opening of the palette must remain well beyond these days of May. As the title of the exhibition that we can see at the Masó Foundation says, Girona is, at the very least, gray, blue and green.

This means that, in times of urban growth, we have the challenge of maintaining this asset that is the city's rivers, as well as taking care of the trees and growing the green areas."

For her part, the deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Promotion and Legal Services, Gemma Geis i Carreras, points out that "the floral projects once again challenge us. Water and climate change will be present, reminding us that beauty can also be a cry for help. And music will find its space, with a tribute to Pau Casals on the 150th anniversary of his birth. On the steps of the Cathedral, the dialogue will be with Gaudí, in a year that also vindicates him".

As for the 22nd Window Dressing and Interior Decoration Exhibition, which aims to involve local businesses in the different activities taking place in the city, this year it will feature the participation of 32 establishments.

Regarding the theme of the exhibitions, visitors will be able to attend the following: Critique and Commitment , by Vicenç Huedo at the Girona History Museum; Volaverunt, Goya's engravings from the contemporary era , at the Girona History Museum; A game of creatures , cycle “20 minutes on the sidelines” by Rafel G. Bianchi and Margit Kocsis with the contribution of Irene Pujadas, curated by Bernat Daviu, at the Bòlit de la Rambla; Aquí mesmo en un altro blog , cycle “20 minutes on the sidelines”, by Víctor Balcells, Andrea Gómez, Will Lee, Daniel Moreno Roldán and Sara Sadik, curated by Bernat Daviu, at the Bòlit del Pou Rodó; Maladaptive Daydreaming , by Elena Garrigolas, with the contribution of Mar Bosch, curated by Bernat Daviu, at the Bòlit de Sant Nicolau; Exhibition of watercolors at the Girona Urban Property Chamber, which has been organized by the Friends of Watercolor Association of Girona and the Regions; Exhibition of paintings at Saló XV (c. Francesc Eiximenis, 15), organized by Saló XV; Les flors de la Fina , Margot's Association, at the Barri Vell-Mercadal Civic Center, and Natura Íntima , at the Pont Major Civic Center.

During these days of the festival, guided tours will also be held, there will be open days at the Girona History Museum and all the city's museums, and special hours at the Cinema Museum.

For their part, schools participate in “Girona, Temps de Flors” with multiple activities that are carried out in the classrooms with different projects that can be seen within the framework of the festival. Among these, there is the one in Zone U, located on Nou Street, and the project that for 27 years has been promoted by Girona City Council through La Caseta - Serveis Educatius de Girona, which can be visited at Casa Solterra. Likewise, some educational centers also participate in the floral exhibition with their own projects.

The floral proposal of Casa Solterra, under the title “Flowers of Legends”, consists of a floral workshop in which students create part of the composition, which is completed during the days of the exhibition.

SCREENING OF THE WORKS PARTICIPATING IN THE TOKYO INTERNATIONAL FLOWER ART MOVIE COMPETITION 2026 AT THE TRUFFAUT CINEMA IN GIRONA

Next Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m., in Room 1 of the Truffaut Cinema, the screening of the works participating in the Tokyo International Flower Art Movie Competition 2026 will take place.

This competition invites submissions of 90-second short films on the theme of flowers, expressing the thoughts, memories, emotions and messages of each artist. Videos that reflect the beauty of flowers, memories or scenes from life related to them, or stories inspired by free imagination: there are no limits to the forms of expression. Face flowers and their sincerity, and challenge yourself to create your own unique visual expression from your perspective. Admission to this session will be free.
