I am Stone. I am Rock or when the stone breathes light

iEX transforms a sculpture by Enric Monjo into an immersive video art experience at the Municipal Museum of Vilassar de Mar.

I am Stone. I am Rock or when the stone breathes light

At the Vilassar de Mar Municipal Museum, where the heritage memory and the sculpture collection dedicated to Enric Monjo coexist, a new artistic proposal opens a gap between matter and the invisible. It is Soc Pedra. Soc Roca , a video art creation signed by iEX and produced with the support of the Vilassar de Mar City Council and the museum headquarters of the Maresme municipality.

The work is incorporated into the exhibition itinerary as a contemporary intervention that dialogues with classical sculpture and the museum space. After recently inaugurating a large-scale pictorial work at the Hotel Arts Barcelona , iEX now presents a much more introspective piece, conceived specifically for Vilassar de Mar.

The project takes as its starting point the first verse of the Isha Upanishad: “All that is, animate or inanimate, dwells in the Lord.” This ancestral idea—according to which a single essence permeates all existence—is transformed here into visual and sound matter.

Through a delicate mapping work projected onto a sculpture by Enric Monjo, the light slowly travels across the surface of the stone as if trying to decipher its internal memory. The effect is that of a spiritual scanner: a silent exploration that seeks traces of some consciousness hidden beneath the matter.

The piece offers the viewer an experience of active contemplation. Rather than observing a work, the visitor enters into a dialogue between past and present, between the solidity of the sculptural body and the intangible fragility of digital projection. Video art does not replace sculpture, but rather reinterprets it, opening up new readings on permanence, time and transcendence.

One of the most unique aspects of the project is the participation of students from the high schools of Vilassar de Mar. Their voices and drawings are part of the installation and bring a human and collective layer to the work. This gesture turns the proposal into a shared experience, where the contemporary gaze of young people comes into contact with Monjo's sculptural legacy.
