While the exhibition Josep Bagur, humanism and resilience can still be visited at Ca n'Oliver in Maó, the Menorcan art world has said goodbye to the painter Josep Bagur Corominas, who died in Maó at the age of 66. The exhibition, promoted by the Consell Insular, now takes on a dimension of posthumous tribute to a creator, disseminator and trainer who understood art as a tool of thought and cultural transmission.

The retrospective, made up of 59 pieces, synthesizes an extensive and diverse career that begins with an early interest in art from reading comics. This origin, apparently far from academic circuits, becomes the starting point of a career marked by the plurality of languages and a constant desire for experimentation.

Bagur built his own pictorial universe, where figure, light and colour function as instruments of a sustained exploration of identity and human experience. His work, deeply symbolic, is structured around a humanist message that places the fragility, dignity and resilience of people at the centre.

The curator of the exhibition, Carles Jiménez, defines him as an "atypical painter", far from being assigned to a single style. According to him, his work is characterized by great expressive force and a very personal character, capable of transmitting emotional intensity and reflection at the same time. This imprint allows him to articulate a profoundly humanist discourse, in which the brushstroke acquires an outstanding plastic value, but also a strong symbolic component.

Bagur's career had already been recognized previously in Ciutadella, in an initiative of the Consell Insular de Menorca to highlight his artistic contribution, such as with prominent figures such as Pepe Vives Campomar, Toni Vidal or Matías Quetglas. In this context, he is recognized as a cultured, rigorous and erudite creator, capable of establishing bridges between the classical pictorial tradition and contemporary sensibilities.

His exhibition career includes notable milestones, such as his first solo show in 1995 at the Sa Nostra cultural center, as well as his participation, in 1986, in an exhibition at the Palau Solleric in Palma alongside José María Yturralde. The following year he took part in a project dedicated to visual perception in art, thus consolidating a career also linked to reflection and artistic dissemination.

Beyond his pictorial production, Bagur developed an intense work as a cultural promoter and disseminator of the arts, a vocation that he maintained until his last years despite the visual difficulties that conditioned his activity. This pedagogical and humanistic dimension has been a constant in his career.
