The Nou Barris district is positioned this May as one of the central axes of the World Capital of Architecture, in a significant coincidence with the celebration of its main festival, which will take place from May 13 to 17. This double anniversary reinforces the role of a territory historically marked by neighborhood struggle and urban transformation.

One of the key spaces in this program is the Old Mental Institute of Santa Creu, now converted into an important administrative and cultural center, which houses the district headquarters and facilities such as the Nou Barris Library. This emblematic building becomes the epicenter of activities related to architecture until December.

Nou Barris, made up of thirteen neighbourhoods with a strong community identity, has its roots in the waves of working-class migration in the mid-20th century and in an often disorderly urban growth. With the arrival of democratic town councils, starting in the 1980s, a profound renovation of public space was promoted, improving both the main urban axes such as Passeig Valldaura and Via Júlia, and also expanding and dignifying green areas such as Parc de la Guineueta or Parc Central. This process has contributed to the cohesion of the neighbourhoods and to the enhancement of heritage elements such as the Mirador de la Torre del Baró.

During the month of May, the Antic Institut Mental will host several activities focused on contemporary architecture and urbanism. Among these, a debate open to the public around the traveling exhibition From partition walls to facades. A legacy for the city , which explores initiatives to transform partition walls into new green spaces integrated into the urban landscape, will take place in the Placeta de Charlot, leaving a permanent mark on the district.

The program also includes proposals that invite you to rediscover the territory from innovative perspectives. This is the case of the sensory route "Blind Sound Walk", an experience that focuses on listening as a tool for urban perception; Jane's Walk, focused on citizen participation; or a route through the Central Park that highlights the relationship between nature and architecture.
