Inner Matter: sculpting what makes us human

Inner Matter: sculpting what makes us human

The Cárcel Vieja Contemporary Culture Center in Murcia presents Materia Interior (Inner Matter) , an exhibition by international artist Jaume Plensa, organized in collaboration with the Telefónica Foundation. The exhibition brings together a carefully curated selection of works created from the 1990s to the present, offering a concise yet profound overview of his career.

The exhibition serves as a gateway to the conceptual universe of Plensa, one of the most influential sculptors on the contemporary scene. His constant exploration of the human condition materializes in his own sculptural language, in which the concepts of body, word, and space intertwine to construct a poetic and reflective reality. Monumental heads, suspended figures, and structures built from alphabets of different traditions seek to generate an immersive, intimate experience for the viewer, open to personal interpretation.

Interior Matter is not merely a retrospective exhibition, but rather an intensive exploration of the themes that have shaped the artist's career and defined his practice: identity, silence, listening, and the inner dimension of the individual. Through these works, visitors are invited to pause, to inhabit a different time, removed from the rhythm of daily life, and to situate themselves in a space of perception where the artwork activates a direct relationship between presence, thought, and emotion.

In this way, the exhibition proposes an experience that transcends the merely visual, becoming a meeting place between the artwork and the viewer. In this silent dialogue, matter ceases to be solely physical, transforming into a vehicle for introspection, where each form suggests a question and each void opens the possibility of a new perspective.
