The work of Joaquim Chancho (Riudoms, 1943) arrives at the Blanquerna Cultural Center with the exhibition Hibiscus , a proposal that offers a journey through the artist's pictorial universe and that can be visited until June 6. The exhibition is curated by Bernat Puigdollers, Art Director of the Vila Casas Foundation, and Mar Cuenca, coordinator of the art department of the same foundation.

The opening ceremony was attended by the institutional presence of Núria Marín Martínez, delegate of the Government. Cristina Ribes, general director of the Vila Casas Foundation, and Bernat Puigdollers himself spoke during the opening, while the closing ceremony was held by Sònia Hernández Almodóvar, Minister of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Joaquim Chancho's career is part of a rigorous line of research into the possibilities of contemporary abstract painting. Over decades of work, the artist has developed his own language based on the exploration of pictorial space, gesture and structure, turning the surface of the painting into a space for visual and conceptual experimentation.

One of the most recognizable characteristics of his work is the use of a structural abstraction that is often articulated through plots, lines and geometric shapes. These structures organize the composition and generate a visual order that constantly dialogues with the artist's gesture and with the very process of constructing the painting.

The exhibition presented in Madrid brings together a concise and refined selection of works by Chancho. The set comes from the collection assembled over the years by the pharmacist and collector Joan Puig Guillot (L'Escala, 1929 – L'Ametlla del Vallès, 2020), a great admirer of the artist and personal friend, who gradually acquired several pieces that today constitute a significant testimony to his career.
