Chance as a creative engine arrives in Martorell

The Muxart Contemporary Art and Creation Space in Martorell becomes the setting for a profound reflection on the unpredictable with the arrival of the exhibition And, suddenly, chance. Uncertainties, destinies and coincidences in the MACBA Collection. Promoted by the Visual Arts Program of the Barcelona Provincial Council and with the collaboration of the MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the exhibition lands in Martorell after a notable start in Manresa, where it brought together nearly 3,000 visitors at its inauguration.

The exhibition opens on Friday, January 23 and can be visited until March 29, as part of a traveling project that travels through ten municipalities in the region. On this occasion, the proposal incorporates a significant novelty: for the first time, the program includes a pilot test of a shared creation project with local groups. In Martorell, this experience is being developed with the participation of the Comprehensive Unit for the Recovery of Eating Disorders of the Martorell Hospital Foundation–Hospital de Bellvitge, reinforcing the dialogue between contemporary art, territory and social practices.

Through a selection of works from the MACBA collection, the exhibition explores the role of chance in our lives from three major conceptual axes—uncertainty, fate and chance—and brings together the perspectives of twelve artists from different generations, both Catalan and international. The tour invites the visitor to think of chance not only as a fortuitous element, but as a force that runs through vital processes, decisions and personal and collective stories.

The program of complementary activities expands this experience with several proposals open to the public. On Sundays 1 and 22 February, the guided tours for adults Choreographies of the Uncertain: Chance in Contemporary Art will take place. On Sunday 1 March, the family-friendly tour Deixar-se endur per l'azar will be offered, aimed especially at families with children aged six and over. Finally, on Sunday 15 March, in the framework of International Women's Day, the curator of the exhibition, Claudia Elies, will lead a guided tour with a gender focus.

With this proposal, Muxart reaffirms its commitment to contemporary art as a space for critical thinking and shared experience, inviting us to accept—and even embrace—uncertainty as an essential part of creation and life itself.
