On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the twinning between Girona and Albi, the two cities have organized a unique cultural exchange that allows you to enjoy two unique exhibitions simultaneously. Thirteen works by Joan Miró, from the collection of Girona City Council, will travel to the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec d'Albi, while six pieces by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec will arrive in the Catalan city. This exchange offers the public the opportunity to discover the artistic wealth of each of the cities through two of the most emblematic names in modern art.
In Girona, the exhibition entitled A lighthouse between two worlds. Six works from the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec d'Albi visit Girona was inaugurated today last December 11 at the Girona History Museum. Curated by cultural journalist Eva Vàzquez, the exhibition presents outstanding works by Toulouse-Lautrec, such as Champ de course (1881), Femme couchée les bras levés (1894) or Madame Pascale au piano (1894).

The official presentation was attended by the Mayor of Girona, Lluc Salellas i Vilar; the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Culture, Quim Ayats Batrina; the Director of the History Museum, Sílvia Planas Marcè, and the curator of the exhibition, Eva Vàzquez. The Director of the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, Fanny Girard, also attended. The Mayor highlighted: “This exhibition represents an excellent culmination of 40 years of twinning between Girona and Albi. It allows us to place culture as a central element and I will always defend that culture is a fundamental pillar of our public policy, and above all of our city”.
The six works by Toulouse-Lautrec can be visited on the third floor of the History Museum from December 11 to March 8. This selection allows us to get closer to the artist's innovative look at the Parisian urban and natural landscape, as well as his explorations of intimacy and new visual strategies inspired by mass culture.

In addition, the works are put into dialogue with around forty pieces by Catalan artists influenced by Toulouse-Lautrec, from the Girona City Council collection, offering the public a unique perspective on the circulation of ideas and styles between Paris and Catalonia. The exhibition is accompanied by conferences and guided tours that will delve into the works and careers of the artists, strengthening the cultural ties between both cities and highlighting culture as a driver of dialogue and mutual enrichment.
