“Art is everywhere”: Francesca Piñol and Casa Aymat, Sant Cugat's creative epicenter in Unclassifiables

The sixth episode of season III of Inclassificables, the art podcast of Catalunya Ràdio hosted by David Escamilla and Ricard Planas, takes us to Sant Cugat del Vallès, one of the artistic epicenters of the Vallès Occidental. On this occasion, the protagonists are the artist Francesca Piñol and Xavier Fornells, with whom the hosts chat to explore the projects and trajectory of Casa Aymat.

Located in the heart of Sant Cugat, Casa Aymat is an emblematic building with a rich history linked to art and creation. Originally, it was a carpet and tapestry factory, but over the years it has become a reference center for contemporary tapestry and artistic training. It currently houses the Contemporary Tapestry Museum and offers spaces for ceramics, sculpture and engraving workshops. Casa Aymat has been closely linked to the Catalan Tapestry School, supporting numerous artists and cultural projects, and continues to be a meeting point for creativity and innovation in the region.

  • The Arctic Circle by Francesca Piñol.

For her part, Francesca Piñol (1959, Puigverd de Lleida) is a textile artist and craftswoman of international prestige. With a degree in Anthropology and a postgraduate degree in Textile Design, she has expanded her training in Copenhagen and at the International Centre for the Study of Ancient Textiles (CIETA) in Lyon. Since 1999 she has been a Textile Art teacher at the Escola Massana and in 2000 she received the title of “Master Weaver”. A member of the FAD Artists group, Piñol combines creation, research and teaching, working with a digital Jacquard loom and natural threads. She runs her own textile laboratory, has participated in international residencies, and her series “The Fabric of Thoughts” explores the dialogue between art and neuroscience through natural and neuronal landscapes.

This chapter of Inclassificables reveals how, in Sant Cugat, history and artistic innovation meet to shape projects that continue to enrich the Catalan cultural panorama.
