Last days to visit the philosopher's workshop of Georges Didi-Huberman

The end of the Filmoteca's temporary exhibition marks the beginning of a new exhibition season in Barcelona.

Last days to visit the philosopher's workshop of Georges Didi-Huberman
bonart barcelona - 26/08/25

The exhibition In the Philosopher's Workshop , by Georges Didi-Huberman, arrived at the Filmoteca de Catalunya last May after its presentation at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. The exhibition offers a more intimate and contemplative experience of the creative process of the French philosopher and art historian. We are now approaching the last days to visit it, as it ends on August 31.

The exhibition allows visitors to delve into Didi-Huberman's universe, where philosophical thought is combined with manual and artistic practice. Individual audiovisual works such as L'Optogramme and Face à face à matière can be discovered, as well as collaborative projects with artists such as Arno Gisinger, with his installation Diapoteca , and Henri Herré, with the film De la mesa a la tapa: compás , which documents the philosopher's working method.

At the Filmoteca, the exhibition adapts to a more leisurely environment, inviting reflection on the relationship between image, history and memory. The visitor can observe how Didi-Huberman “thinks with his hands”: the use of handwritten cards, the manipulation of images and musical practice are part of his philosophical process, demonstrating that creation is not only intellectual, but also physical and experiential.

Furthermore, the exhibition is complemented by previously unpublished publications and texts by the philosopher and his collaborators, which broaden the understanding of the concept of “workshop” as a space for thought and experimentation. This version of the exhibition invites you on an introspective journey, where the visitor becomes a witness to the dialogue between theory, practice and art that defines Didi-Huberman’s work.

The proposal invites visitors to enter the philosopher's workshop, a space where Georges Didi-Huberman combines imagination and rigor to explore new connections between words, objects, images, people, formats, disciplines, temporalities and latitudes, transforming thought into a true assembly table. The exhibition is curated by Lucía Montes Sánchez and coexists with the exhibition In the moved air… which can be visited until September 28 at the CCCB.

The exhibition Georges Didi-Huberman. In the Philosopher's Workshop offers an expanded look at the author's philosophical legacy, focusing on his direct relationship with images. For the first time, his audiovisual works can be seen together, as well as several experimental projects developed in collaboration with other artists.

Through this exploration of unconventional techniques, formats and paths in philosophical practice —which, however, form an essential part of his production—, the exhibition highlights a key aspect of Didi-Huberman's attitude: constant research and radical experimentation as fundamental principles of his method.

Georges Didi-Huberman's slide library, created between 1980 and 2000, contains around 27,000 colour slides measuring 24 × 36 millimetres. It can be considered the visual expression of his thinking: learning through photography has been a fundamental principle of his methodology as a writer and teacher. Without numbering or code, but with an implacable intrinsic logic, its classification by "orders" allows the production of knowledge to be found at all times. The dialectical functioning between library and slide library, between words and images, has its echo in the practice of the famous "cards".
