Exhibition in Maçanet de Cabrenys where paper reformulates the artist's work.

Nature vs Nature by Joan Vilajoana in Can Viola

Undo to do. Nature vs. nature is the exhibition created by Joan Vilajoana at Can Viola Exhibition Hall in Maçanet de Cabrenys. An exhibition that can be seen until September 9. The artist from Moia lands with two creative lines that start from the artisanal work of handmade paper, a process that the artist has turned into a means of creation, plastic and poetic expression.

His work arises from a constant search for a deep connection between nature and the inner journey of the human being. Through his creations, the artist investigates the symbolic and emotional relationship between the landscapes of the natural world and the paths we travel within ourselves. The textures he uses evoke organic elements, such as bark, leaves, sediments or shapes that seem to emerge directly from the earth, while the strokes and compositions often take the form of visual labyrinths that invite the viewer to get lost and find themselves again in an intimate and contemplative journey.

The intense and vivid colors not only describe real or imagined landscapes, but also act as metaphors for emotions and internal states, offering a view that moves between the external world and the most introspective dimension. In some of his pieces, the artist challenges the traditional distinction between support and painting: the paper not only hosts the work, but also becomes both the material and pictorial protagonist. This integrated use of the material reinforces his desire to explore the limits between form and content, between what is seen and what is perceived.

“I dedicate myself to undoing papers - egg cartons, cardboard, cellulose - to make them again. Undoing to make”, explains Joan Vilajoana with the pieces exhibited at Can Viola. The first project, Caminar el paisatge, is inspired by the physical experience of walking through nature, transforming elements such as stones and branches into delicate works where the paper is part of the painting. The second, Paper mullat, explores paper as a material, showing textures, transparencies and colors that invite a silent and introspective experience.

Can Viola continues to create exhibitions full of art and cultural dissemination, managed by Esther Julià. A space where Contemporary art has a place and now with Nature vs Nature which opens on August 5th Joan Vilajoana shows the qualities of paper from the eight or absence to textures, transparencies, colors and strokes.
