From July 9th to September 1st, the Museo Reina Sofía will host the exhibition "Resistance. A Selection of South American Video," in collaboration with BIENALSUR and curated by Diana Wechsler. The public will be able to experience works by Sebastián Díaz Morales (Argentina), Anna Bella Geiger (Brazil), Voluspa Jarpa (Chile), Francisca Jiménez Ortegate (Colombia), Clemente Padín (Uruguay), Silvia Rivas (Argentina), and Graciela Sacco (Argentina).

  • Full of hope, Condena, Silvia Ribas, 2002-2003.

Seven audiovisual works that include two viewing methods: either a tour of the room on the various monitors installed in the cinema lobby or a projection on the cinema screen of three of the longer pieces: Miles Marchan (2018-2021) by Sebastián Díaz Morales, which portrays faceless and flagless demonstrations, reflecting collective power; Ficciones de tierra caliente (Hot Land Fictions) by Francisca Jiménez, a visual essay on landscapes affected by violence; and Ocular Trauma by Voluspa Jarpa, which addresses the reality of young people who lost their sight during the protests of the Chilean social outbreak.

This is an innovative summer program launched by the Museo Reina Sofía in conjunction with BIENALSUR, bringing viewers closer to a selection of video art works that examine the potential of resistance as a political and aesthetic act, in which the radical nature of form meets that of language.

  • Fictions of the Hot Land, Francisca Jiménez, 2022-2023.

Manuel Segade, director of the Madrid museum, describes it as a pilot for future seasons of experimental and new media film. The MNCARS joins BIENALSUR, the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of the South, organized by the National University of Tres de Febrero and the Foro del Sur Foundation.
