The bases for the 11th Torres-García Biennial Painting Prize have been announced

The Sant Lluc Association for Art Mataró and the Iluro Foundation already have everything ready and present the eleventh call for the Torres García Painting Award - City of Mataró 2025 with the main objective of promoting the artistic activities of the capital of the Maresme region, in parallel with the dissemination of the name of the city of Mataró.

This award, considered one of the most important in the field of contemporary painting in Catalonia and in the State, represents a step forward in its consolidation, with a new organizational stage in charge of the Iluro Foundation, which takes over from the Sant Lluc Association for Art Mataró, which will continue to provide active support and collaboration in management, in addition to the Mataró City Council with the institutional and logistical aspects.

An award that will maintain the prize fund of 9,000 euros, in addition to offering a first-class exhibition for the finalist works at the Iluro Foundation Cultural Center from February 20 to May 17, 206. The jury, made up of prominent figures from the world of art, will bring prestige and criteria to the selection. Among the members of this edition are Juan Manuel Bonet, former director of the Reina Sofia and IVAM; Anna Capella, director of the Mataró Museum; Emmanuel Guigon, director of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona; Julio Vaquero, artist and advisor to the Sorigué Foundation; and Marga Viza, director of Culture at the Catalunya – La Pedrera Foundation.

PARTICIPANTS

  • Adults residing in Spain will be able to participate.

WORK

  • Each participant may only compete with one work, which has never been selected or awarded in any other competition.

  • The subject, support and technique are free. The minimum dimensions of the work are 100 x 80 cm in any position, and the maximum 162 x 162 cm. The strip or picture saver, if used, will not exceed 3 cm in width. Works protected with glass will not be accepted, but with unbreakable plastic material.

Registration and Documentation

  • The work must be transported and delivered with the necessary packaging to protect it, and which must be reusable for return.

  • The work will travel at the author's expense and risk, with postage paid and under their responsibility.

  • Insurance, if taken out, will, however, be the responsibility of each participant.

  • The work will be signed by the author and, on the back, will include the author's name and surname, the title of the work and, in the case of a non-figurative work, the indication "Top" and "Bottom".

  • With a deadline of November 16, 2025, participants must send an email with a form, data and images of the work.

Finalists and exhibition

  • The finalist works will be exhibited at the Ateneu Cultural Center of the Iluro Foundation, La Riera 92, in Mataró, from February 20 to May 17, 2026.

  • On the day of the inauguration, February 20, 2026, the final verdict of the Jury will be made public.

  • Along with the exhibition, a catalogue with the finalist works will be published.

Endowment

A single prize of €9,000 is established for the winning work at the discretion of the jury. The relevant tax withholdings will be deducted from the amount of the prize in accordance with current legislation.
