How to Design a Revolution: The Chilean Way to Design is the new exhibition at Disseny Hub Barcelona that can be seen from July 2 to November 16, exploring the role that graphic and industrial design played in the South American country during the presidency of Salvador Allende.

This exhibition tour had its first stop at the Centro Cultural de La Moneda in Santiago de Chile and now arrives in Barcelona with the aim of seeing how design became a tool for building a more equitable society and achieving a great goal: improving the quality of life.

A curatorial trio formed by Hugo Palmarola, Edon Medina and Pedro Ignacio Alonso created the path of Chilean design that is now exhibited at the DHub where the Latin American country was placed at the forefront of world design, however, the subsequent arrival of the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet destroyed all this well-being of design gained during the years of Salvador Allende.

An exhibition with more than 250 works and pieces of industrial design and graphic design to reach the result of seeing diverse creativity and the existence of a multiplicity of ways of doing design. The Popular Unity government stood out for many elements, but design took a boost based on creativity, ideas where design was used to address societal problems.

A feature of How to Design a Revolution: The Chilean Way to Design are the reconstructions of those years such as the reconstruction of the Cybersen operations room, but the visitor will see how this design from Chile had social objectives and the exhibition is divided into seven areas with a notable museography: managing an economy, nurturing childhood, how to summon collective action, promoting popular music, reducing technological dependence, building a reading society and fostering peaceful coexistence.
