Miguel Milà is one of the pioneers and precursors of industrial design in Catalonia and Spain, internationally recognized and now the DHub is creating an exhibition tour to discover Milà's entire personal and work career. Curated by Gonzalo Milà and Claudia Oliva, the temporary exhibition co-organized by the DHub, La Fábrica and the Madrid Design Festival, can be visited until September 28.

More than 150 pieces are part of this complete design path of Miguel Milà in an exhibition that provides a wide documentary layer that complements and contextualizes the work on display. A documentary section with more than 270 documents including plans, drawings and original photos help to delve into this context of Miguel Milà. (Pre)industrial designer .

Process of creation, manufacture, sale, public projection, life cycle in objects recognized over the decades. Eight rooms of the Disseny Hub Barcelona all began the exhibition path with the family context, with the beginnings of Milan and portray the genesis of the discipline of industrial design. From this moment on, evolution will be a concept that will go in parallel to their ideas and creations with contributions within the domestic context or interventions in the urban space.

Miguel Milà's creations are characterized by combining functionality, elegance and simplicity, since as he himself said, a good design must always be useful and, in addition, withstand the passage of time without problems. Craftsmanship, DIY and the search for the essential characterize the many works produced by the author who explained that his work consisted, initially, of having an idea and, then, of removing everything that was superfluous.

The Design Museum-DHub welcomed Milà's legacy in the year of its foundation in 2014 and now with Miguel Milà. A (pre)industrial designer, he will exhibit for the first time a part of this entire important collection. Miguel Milà knew that the beauty of objects lies in their simplicity and was a master who dedicated his life to perfecting the art of design and in each piece, he sought the essence, eliminating the unnecessary to arrive at the simplest and most effective solution. His pieces survive him, most of them converted into timeless classics coveted by lovers of good design.

After the room where he sees the family home as a universe to create, it is time to design for modernity and (pre)industrial design. “When I started, everything had to be designed from scratch”, he explained. Miguel Milà developed a solid technical and mechanical background with craftsmen in carpentry and blacksmithing. The latest exhibition rooms transport the viewer and their gaze to domestic comfort, urban comfort and timeless design.
