The exhibition Form | Structure at the Miguel Marcos Gallery presents a selection of recent works by British artist David Tremlett (St. Austell, Cornwall), renowned for his versatility and exploration of pastel and graphite on paper. Tremlett studied sculpture at the Birmingham School of Art and later at the Royal College of Art in London. Since the 1970s, he has achieved outstanding international recognition, alongside artists such as Richard Long, especially for his mural interventions in museums, galleries and historic spaces around the world.

Since the 1980s, pastel has become his primary medium of expression. Of this material, Tremlett explains: “It’s a fragile, delicate powder, so light that you can blow on it, but at the same time you can make something strong, demanding and structurally resistant.” This apparent fragility contrasts with the solidity of his works, which explore solid form, spatial balance and the interconnection between drawing, sculpture and architecture.

Form | Structure, which can be visited until July 31, maintains its essential language: a refined synthesis that investigates the sculptural potential of drawing. According to the artist, these forms “are transferred into structures that can range from works on paper to walls, ceilings, floors or three-dimensional volumes.”

The exhibited pieces show round and abstract forms that, despite their flat appearance, unfold with a very clear three-dimensional awareness. The volumes, almost weightless, are organized in rigorous and silent compositions where color —intensely present in some and absent in others— assumes a more structural than decorative role. This play between surface and depth, visual weight and geometric lightness, reveals an architectural logic that evokes both real and imagined spaces.

His career, which ranges from Land Art to monumental murals, includes the creation of prominent public projects such as the murals for the British Embassy in Berlin, the British Council building in Nairobi and the Palazzo Butera in Palermo. In 1992, Tremlett was nominated for the Turner Prize for his drawn murals. In addition, his individual work has been exhibited in prestigious institutions such as the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Museo Pecci in Prato and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
