"The inauguration of the Center d'Estudis d'Art Contemporani, at seven o'clock yesterday afternoon, was the best tribute that an artist can receive from his country. Not only did they go up to Montjuïc mountain, market women and directors of art galleries and museums. Among the many attendees - a thousand, two thousand? - who toured the rooms of Josep Lluí Sert for the first time for hours, there was a quite remarkable representation of Catalan art and literature. It was a party Full of optimism, color and ingenuity, three constants of Joan Miró's work. The act was not official, but simply a presence. The presence of Tàpies, Salvat, Cirici, Chillida, Portabella, Bohigas.

With these words, Lluís Bonada, journalist for the Diario de Barcelona, described the inauguration ceremony of the main, at the time, cultural space of reference in the city of Barcelona, in which prominent figures who promoted modernity in Catalonia contributed, with special emphasis on the figure of Joan Prats, key in the creation of the Center for Contemporary Art Studies (CEAC), the fruit of the desire shared by Joan Miró, Josep Lluís Sert and the Club 49 group to create a progressive and international cultural space in Barcelona.

This 2025 will be a year full of activity at the Fundació Joan Miró, coinciding with the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the inauguration of its emblematic building on Montjuïc built by the rationalist architect Josep Lluís Sert, together with the artist Joan Miró. The commemoration began yesterday, June 10 —a date that coincides with the inauguration of the museum fifty years ago— with the exhibition Poetry has just begun. 50 years of Miró. Curated by Blanca Arias, Martina Millà and Ramon Balcells, the exhibition is structured around four thematic axes: the key moments in the history of the foundation, the first years of operation of the CEAC until Miró's death in 1983, the transformation of the foundation from the eighties and, finally, the tribute to the artists who have been part of the institution's recent history. Complemented by three specific spaces with infographics dedicated to the history of the foundation and its artists, an audiovisual installation on previous temporary exhibitions and an experimentation laboratory with materials collected for the occasion, the exhibition is structured as a beautiful ars combinatoria that embraces art, architecture and landscape, the main foundations in the conception of the architectural project.
Joan Miró not only considered himself a free man guided by the pure spirit, but he considered his art a fruit of this spirit that resided in him as a concrete and real essence. This essentiality is also the search of this curatorial team that embraces the memory of a legacy to look to the future, always under the wake of the great creator.
