A unique and possibly unrepeatable opportunity with the exhibition at the Prado of Paolo Veronese (1528-1588) to delve deeply into the work of one of the great masters of the Renaissance, key to understanding the artistic taste of the time and its influence on Spanish painting of the Golden Age. This is the first major monographic exhibition dedicated in Spain to the creative genius of Veronese and can be visited at the Madrid art gallery until September 21.

The work of the artist born in Verona on April 19, 1528, dazzles the Prado Museum like never before and does so with a spectacular tour with more than a hundred works by the painter of elegance. It is a path to enjoy for a long time a major artist like Paolo Veronese, possibly the great exhibition of this first part of 2025 within the Spanish museum panorama.

Monumental works, some restored for the occasion, traveling pieces from the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum or the Galleria degli Uffizi, dialogue with the 15 pieces that the Prado preserves by Paolo Caliari, known as Veronese. Miguel Falomir, curator of the exhibition together with Enrico Maria dal Pozzolo, commented at the opening “Veronese was the Cary Grant of his time”.

The doors of the Prado open wide with the Renaissance master, creator along with Titian of the sumptuous and colorful taste that exploded in Venice, the great artistic capital of that time. The Dinner at Simon's is one of the pieces that acts as the driving force of the entire exhibition and is an introduction to the figure of the Italian painter who lived through a time full of competitiveness, but became a successful artist, without great rivalries, in contrast to masters like Caravaggio.

Like all the great artists of past centuries, Veronese transcended his time. The beauty and elegance of his compositions seduced collectors and artists for centuries, including Velázquez, Delacroix and Cézanne. With this exhibition, the Prado closes an ambitious program of research, restorations and exhibitions (Bassano, Tintoretto and Lorenzo Lotto) begun two decades ago dedicated to Venetian Renaissance painting.

The tour transports the viewer from Verona to Venice and from there to elements such as scenography and architecture, two spatial conceptions that conditioned the tone of the narrative. Then comes the creative process, invention and repetition, allegory and mythology, highlighting Venus and Mars with Cupid from the Musei Realia di Torino, to end with Veronese's last works.

It is important to highlight the exhibition part with admirers of Veronese, whether legal heirs or artistic heirs. The painter of painters, influenced many artists, but the Prado delves into works by Benedetto Veronese, Paolo Veronese, Agostino Carracci, Annibale Carracci, Rubens or Alonso Cano. With this exhibition, the Prado becomes the first and only museum in the world to have created an exhibition tour of the three great painters of the Renaissance.
