Barcelona has decided to work hard to strengthen one of its sectors with the most potential: fashion. The City Council has launched a Strategic Fashion Plan designed to boost designers, emerging brands and sustainable initiatives, and make fashion an actor with its own voice within the city's cultural scene.

This roadmap, drawn up with the direct collaboration of the sector, is committed to a broad and transversal perspective. There is room for training, the promotion of young companies, the digitalization of processes and sustainability as a basic criterion. All of this is intended to be deployed between 2025 and 2030 with a budget of 1.3 million euros per year.

One of the ideas in the plan is to rethink how fashion can interact with other creative areas such as gastronomy, festivals or art. It also wants to give more visibility to local production, highlighting emerging talent, and recover initiatives such as Shopping Night to bring the sector closer to the street and to people's daily lives. In addition, the creation of new incubation spaces is planned to facilitate the transition from school to the world of work , turning it into a accompanied process, with support, mentoring and active projects through programs such as Barcelona Fashion Forward, Creamedia, Sustainable Challenge or Impulsem el que fas. Along these lines, it is also intended to create the Fashion Factory, providing a new space for the Barcelona Fashion Forward entrepreneurship project for business acceleration, to promote brands, designers and companies in the sector, and expanding the services offered and working to achieve their visibility.

Regarding international projection, actions are proposed to give Catalan brands a presence in global fairs and markets, as well as alliances with other cities. There is also the desire to review and renew the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week , and in order to make this possible, a shared governance model is proposed with the Generalitat and the sector, with the aim of updating the format of the catwalk and giving more prominence to emerging talent, design schools and innovation.

Sustainability also occupies a prominent place. The aim is to promote recycling, the circular economy and new, more responsible models of production and consumption. In parallel, the Disseny Hub Barcelona will play a central role as a meeting point and driving force for the project, reinforcing its role as a reference space within the creative industries.

This plan not only seeks to support the sector from a cultural and economic perspective, but also draws a panorama that allows us to better understand the importance of fashion in our country. According to data from 2024, more than 100,000 people work in this field in Catalonia, with a turnover exceeding 14,000 million euros. This places the territory as a key piece in the textile and fashion machinery at a state level.
