The Sala Canal de Isabel II of the Community of Madrid hosts the exhibition A Time to Look (1970-2020), a journey through five decades of the career of photojournalist Marisa Flórez (León, 1948). Curated by Mónica Carabias Álvaro, the exhibition presents more than 185 snapshots that portray key moments in the recent history of the State, from the beginnings of parliamentary life to the first demonstrations and the arrival of Guernica in Madrid. Some of these images, previously unpublished, demonstrate the keen eye of a photographer who has documented the social, political and cultural transformations of the country.
The photographs, taken from his personal archive, show a powerful visual style and a profoundly contemporary way of looking and creating. Flórez is committed to a direct and unartificial visual narrative, with an exceptional mastery of natural light and a combination of intuition, patience, courage and sensitivity. These elements, added to respect, discretion and the capacity for surprise, define his commitment to photojournalism, a profession that, according to him, has contributed a lot to him both personally and professionally.

The exhibition, which can be visited until July 20, invites us to explore the evolution of Spanish society through his work, turning the images into witnesses of a time in constant transformation. At the same time, the show vindicates photography as an essential means of telling history and preserving its most significant moments.
Marisa Flórez is one of the most prominent photojournalists in the Spanish scene, with a career recognized by awards such as the National Graphic Journalism Award (1981) and the Culture Award of the Community of Madrid (2024). Her work goes beyond the simple capture of historical events; she seeks to delve deeper into the essence of the characters and moments she portrays, transforming her images into authentic visual stories.
