Casa Gomis will soon be fully integrated into the country's artistic story. This home located in the Llobregat Delta will be managed by the National Art Museum of Catalonia, which will coordinate both the cultural programming and the general activity of the space.

This move has been possible thanks to the agreement between the Ministry of Culture, the Generalitat and the MNAC. While the ministry is committed to taking on the necessary maintenance and adaptation work, it will be the museum that will define the activities, manage the visits and draw up the content lines to highlight this emblem of 20th century architecture. The reopening, however, is scheduled for February 2026, coinciding with two major events that will put Barcelona at the centre of the world of architecture: the World Capital of Architecture and the Congress of the International Union of Architects.

Designed by the Barcelona architect Antoni Bonet Castellana between 1957 and 1963, Casa Gomis was designed for the couple Ricard Gomis and Inés Bertrand. Located within the natural setting of La Ricarda, in the heart of an area protected for its ecological value, this single-storey construction managed to fit naturally between the pine forest and the Delta landscape. The space combines sobriety and precision, a large horizontal platform articulates the garden, paths and ponds, in a composition of clean and orthogonal lines.

The value of Casa Gomis, however, goes far beyond its form. It was a space open to creativity and a refuge for many artists in the midst of the dictatorship. Ricard Gomis, linked to Club 49, made the house a meeting point for creators such as Joan Prats, Tàpies, Brossa, Mestres Quadreny, Carles Santos or even international figures such as John Cage, Merce Cunningham and Robert Gerhard. Artists such as Moisès Villèlia and Magda Bolumar also left their mark there, who intervened directly. All of this forms a rich and vital context for understanding the second avant-gardes in Catalonia, a key stage that the MNAC wants to integrate more decisively in its future expansion.

Declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 2021, the complex maintains the furniture designed by Bonet himself and carefully restored architectural elements. This fidelity to the original state makes it a kind of time capsule for scholars, visitors and architecture enthusiasts. With this new stage, Casa Gomis ceases to be a private residence to open up as a public space dedicated to creation and memory. At the same time, the MNAC incorporates a new piece into its project of research and dissemination of Catalan art.
