Campos and Rosell: evolution

Contemporary ceramics at the Terracotta Museum of La Bisbal d'Empordà.

Campos and Rosell: evolution

The Espai La Peixera of the Terracotta Museum is hosting the exhibition 'Evolution' from today, a proposal that brings together the creations of two prominent artists in the contemporary ceramics scene: Ricardo Campos and Rosa Rosell .

Since their meeting at the La Bisbal Ceramics School in 1990, Campos and Rosell have developed a constant collaboration that has resulted in a joint production of works. Their workshop, called Kypsela and located in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, is the place where this creative duo gives shape to their artistic production. The name of the workshop, with clear references to classical antiquity, not only resonates with tradition, but also links with the territory, evoking the possible connection between the Roman city of Kypsela and the name of Guíxols.

Campos and Rosell: evolution

The work of the two artists is distinguished by the mixture of traditional techniques and a contemporary visual language. On the one hand, their mastery of black ceramics stands out, a technique with a long tradition in La Bisbal, in which they have trained under the influence of Lluís Cornellà, the last representative of a lineage of artists specialized in this discipline. On the other hand, their creations are also nourished by the forms and decorations of classical ceramics, which has led them to explore the techniques and styles of other eras, from archaeology to the reinterpretation of the oldest elements. This combination of influences translates into works that show a clear, sober and elegant style of their own, which presents a wide variety of geometric shapes and metallic finishes.

The exhibition 'Evolution', which can be visited until April 21, reflects this process of research and synthesis between the past and the present, with works that dialogue with tradition and at the same time open new paths for contemporary ceramics.
