The DHub Disseny Hub Barcelona hosts, until October 28, the Barcelona Design Week , an unmissable event on design, creativity and innovation in Barcelona, this year linked to the 18 Sustainable Development Goals declared by the United Nations. This year, Barcelona Design Week has the novelty of the Associated Sites, unique spaces that host part of the main program: Roca Barcelona Gallery, Manyone Barcelona, CASA SEAT, Cosentino City Barcelona, IKEA Diagonal, Kave Home, The Social Hub Barcelona Poblenou and La Masia HP Experience Design Center.
In order to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Barcelona Design Week proposes ODS number 18: Design for Human Future, with the aim of promoting a more humane and humanistic future through the power of design, with the firm intention of generating a positive impact at a global level and for all people.
Barcelona Design Week 2023 offers a varied program with more than 100 activities covering a wide range of creative expressions for all audiences. From interactive installations that explore the connections between citizens and the Sustainable Development Goals, to exhibitions that stimulate reflection on the creative process and the world of artificial intelligence. In addition, attendees will be able to participate in conferences, workshops, round tables, networking events and parties.
Luis Lopezbarrena, president of the executive commission of the Barcelona Design Center, emphasized at the presentation that "there are a hundred design weeks in the world, which leads to a very important and useful international interconnection for designers and companies". In this sense, he emphasized that from 2020 the BDW holds the presidency of the World Design Weeks: "a very useful international network to link the city with design".
For his part, Alessandro Manetti, curator of Barcelona Design Week 2023, emphasized that from Barcelona Design Week 2023 the final objective of this edition is "to generate content beyond this edition, which we will then edit and send to the United Nations". In this sense, at the closing party of Barcelona Design Week 2023, the proposal for Manifesto Nº18: Design for Human Future will be presented, a document that seeks to inspire and guide towards a more humanized and sustainable future.
Isabel Roig, director of Barcelona Design Week and Barcelona Design Center, expressed the importance of design: "If the role of design is to improve our world, it must talk about well-being, sustainability, innovation, gender equality , etc." Roig also highlighted the collaboration with the Passeig de Gràcia 200th Anniversary program and the main installations and exhibitions of BDW'23: Design for a Human Future, Hanging by a Thread, Human/AI Design Challenge, Pure Plants, Nutura and Youth with the desire to move to a better future; as well as the Nº18 Design for Human Future conference, the Opening of Barcelona Design Week, Diagonal Design and OFF BDW, with 60 activities.
Among the collaborative events held these days, Interihotel, Blanc! Festival and 48h Open House Barcelona, Roig has announced that this last festival has named the Wikihousing module as Building 18, which can be visited this weekend.
