The Terracotta Museum inaugurates '40°' by Iona Palau

Terracotta Museum opens on October 20 at 7:30 p.m. 40° at the "La Peixera" Space, an exhibition presenting the artistic work of ceramist Iona Palau, a series of pieces that starts from her final research project carried out during the Higher Degree in Artistic Ceramics at the School Industrial of Barcelona.

Iona Palau's pieces become a work of art the moment the ceramist begins to see herself reflected in them, and realizes that the disfigurement she seeks is actually an expression of the deformation of her spine, with a scoliosis of 40 °. Hence the title of the exhibition: "40°".

This exhibition claims the beauty of imperfect forms, and breaks with the conventional idea that beauty resides in the symmetry of bodies and objects. In the words of the ceramist herself, this creative process "has helped me reconcile with my back and accept it as it is".

In addition to having completed the Higher Degree Training Course in Plastic Arts and Design in Artistic Ceramics at the La Industrial Art School, Iona Palau has also trained in artisanal pottery at the Bisbal Ceramics School and is degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. "40°" is his first solo exhibition as a ceramist.

This exhibition reflects the will of the "La Peixera" space of the Terracotta Museum to exhibit and promote new talents in the world of contemporary artistic ceramics. It will remain open until January 14, 2024 and is part of the cycle of exhibitions that the Association of Ceramists of La Bisbal will curate in this room of the Museum.
