The El Pilar Foundation opens October to video art and reflections on the border

The moving image becomes a tool for reflecting on territory, questioning boundaries, and exploring the tensions that permeate the border. During the month of October, the El Pilar Foundation , in collaboration with the Banco de la República Cultural Center in Cúcuta, is promoting a new edition of the Video Art Club, a space for analysis and discussion that aims to approach contemporary video art from the perspective of Cúcuta and its border context.

Under the title Video Art in Context: Things, Territory, and Borders , the program presents four sessions that connect audiovisual practices with issues such as landscape, memory, order, urban transformation, and the pressures that shape our perception of reality. The sessions engage in dialogue with the exhibition With a Life of Its Own , from the Banco de la República Art Collection, as well as with works presented by the El Pilar Foundation, creating a space for exchange between artistic creation and critical reflection.

The program takes place on Wednesdays in October, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Cúcuta Cultural Center, with free admission. Each session addresses a specific theme through works by artists that allow us to reflect on the present from different perspectives and artistic languages.

The series began on October 7 with Landscape / Memory , a session that brings together Violin Solo by Mario Opazo and Bridge by Ana Montenegro. Here, the landscape appears as a territory of evocation and experience, capable of preserving traces, activating memories, and establishing links between physical space and memory.

On October 14, the program delves into the relationship between Language and Order , with works by Miguel Ángel Ríos and Giuliana Racco. Ríos's The Ghost of Modernity and Racco's a-ab-ana-anti-anto-bis-contra-contro-de-di-dis-hi-in-ir-ob-opo-sotto-sub open a reflection on systems of representation, the structures that organize thought, and the possibilities of language to question established orders.

The third event, scheduled for October 21, will be dedicated to City / Future . Donna Conlon and Jonathan Harker will present Domino Effect , along with We're Writing to You from 2025 , a proposal linked to the Together Apart 2025 project, in La Mariola, Lleida. The session invites participants to observe the city as a space of relationships, tensions, and transformations, where individual and collective actions can trigger new interpretations of the urban environment and its possible futures.

The series will conclude on October 28 with Image / Pressure , an event that brings together O , by Andrés Ramírez Gaviria, and the premiere of a new video work by Didier Bedoya. The session explores the image as a space for experimentation and as a tool for examining the forces that shape our perception and our relationship with the world.

Beyond the exhibition of audiovisual works, the Video Art Club proposes a shared reading experience, in which images serve as a starting point for discussing social, cultural, and political issues. The border, understood not only as a geographical boundary but also as a space of exchange and friction, permeates the entire program and places Cúcuta at the center of a reflection on contemporary territories.
