Sound becomes matter, space is transformed into an instrument and technology opens up new avenues to explore the relationships between art, memory and thought. This is one of the singularities of Cabosanroque, the artistic duo formed by Laia Torrents and Roger Aixut, which has been distinguished with the 2026 National Culture Awards, the highest recognition granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya in the cultural field through the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CoNCA).
Located in a border zone between music, visual arts and sound research, Cabosanroque has developed a creative practice that questions the traditional limits of artistic disciplines. His work turns sound into a form of sculpture and architecture into a space of experimentation, where objects, technological devices and sound compositions participate in the same poetic construction.

The jury has underlined the originality of a trajectory that, from Catalonia and with international projection, establishes dialogues with the Catalan literary and cultural heritage. An approach that combines rigorous research with the use of technology at the service of an idea that is, at the same time, poetic and political. The interdisciplinarity and the collaboration with musicians, writers, thinkers and playwrights complete a way of working that places the duo in a prominent space of contemporary creation.
In Cabosanroque's universe, sound is not only an element that accompanies an image or occupies a space: it becomes a structure capable of generating meanings and activating new readings of reality. His installations propose an experience that involves the viewer and invites them to explore the connections between perception, memory and language. In this way, his work expands the margins of sound creation and establishes bridges between musical practices and the plastic arts.

The 2026 National Culture Awards have also recognized the careers of singer and composer Sílvia Pérez Cruz, actor Oriol Pla, writer Pol Guasch, playwright and stage director Victòria Szpunberg, stage director Àlex Ollé and the publishing house Jande. The set of awards highlights the diversity of languages and areas that make up the Catalan cultural panorama, from music and the performing arts to literature and publishing.
Created in 2009 and awarded by the CoNCA, these awards distinguish figures and projects that contribute significantly to the development of culture in Catalonia. The award ceremony for this edition was held on Friday, October 9 at the Pau Casals Auditorium in Vendrell, in the Baix Penedès.
