Catalonia is celebrating a new edition of the European Heritage Days with nearly 450 free activities spread across 190 municipalities and with the participation of 270 heritage facilities and entities. From 9 to 11 October, museums, monuments, archaeological sites and historical spaces open their doors to bring the cultural wealth of the territory closer to all audiences.

Promoted by the Department of Culture since 1991, the initiative has the collaboration of municipalities and cultural entities, which organize guided and theatrical tours, workshops, itineraries, conferences, concerts and family proposals. The objective is to promote access to culture and strengthen the link between citizens and a heritage that is part of the collective memory.

This year's motto, "Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine", proposed by the Council of Europe, focuses on the threats affecting cultural and natural heritage and the need to protect it, revitalize it and transmit it to future generations.

The program offers a diverse tour of Catalan geography. In the Alt Pirineu, visits to the Esteva Pharmacy in Llívia and the Romanesque churches of the Vall de Boí stand out; in Lleida, the trenches of the Granja d'Escarp and the legends of the Seu Vella. Central Catalonia claims spaces and traditions such as the Patum de Berga, while in Girona, itineraries through historic neighborhoods and theatrical visits to Empúries are proposed.

In Barcelona and its surroundings, activities explore the memory of the neighborhoods, the old washhouses and the port architecture of the Museum of the History of Catalonia. In the Camp de Tarragona, the Roman heritage of Centcelles and the industrial routes share prominence with the modernism of Reus. The Penedès incorporates proposals linked to the memory of the washerwomen, the documentary collections of the VINSEUM and the industrial heritage of Igualada. In the Vall d'Aran, a visit to the old school space of Arròs will allow us to recover the memory of rural education.

During the Conference, entry to the monuments of the Generalitat de Catalunya will also be free, an opportunity to discover spaces such as the restored cloisters of the Royal Monastery of Santes Creus and the Castle Monastery of Escornalbou.
