The Ethnological Museum of Montseny in Arbúcies is opening a new stage with the renovation of its permanent exhibition rooms. The intervention, which represents an investment of 430,000 euros, updates the spaces dedicated to traditional society and reinforces the museographic project of a facility that this year celebrates four decades of history.

The action is part of a broader process of expansion, remodeling and updating of the museum, which in recent years has transformed both the spaces and the way in which the heritage of Montseny is explained. This intervention also includes the restoration of the facade of the historic building and various actions aimed at improving its accessibility and conservation conditions.

The museum's headquarters, located in La Gabella, currently has more than 2,500 square meters and 18 permanent exhibition rooms. The tour offers an approach to the history of Montseny from the first human occupations to the present day, also incorporating audiovisual spaces that contribute to expanding readings about the territory, the ways of life and the social transformations that have shaped it.

The new intervention is particularly located in the central rooms of the first floor, dedicated to traditional society. The aim has been to order the discourse and give greater coherence to the tour, maintaining the chronological structure but introducing a more forceful thematic perspective. In this way, the pieces and testimonies that are part of the collections are related to specific aspects of daily life, forms of work, social relations and ways of inhabiting and understanding the territory.

The renovation does not imply, therefore, abandoning the historical narrative that has defined the museum, but rather revising and updating it so that it allows new connections to be established between objects, documents, landscape and memory. Ethnological heritage thus appears as a tool to understand not only what Montseny was like in other times, but also the transformations that have led to the contemporary territory.
