Olga Martínez, a conversation that remains

Olga Martínez, a conversation that remains
bonart ibagué, tolima - 08/10/26

The Tolima Art Museum, in its Room 1, presents from October 8 to November 19, 2026 an exhibition dedicated to Olga Martínez, a journey through an artistic career in which painting, drawing, object and installation participate in the same investigation sustained for decades.

Curated by Luis Fernando Bautista, the exhibition proposes approaching Martínez's work not as a succession of independent stages, but as a conversation that unfolds over time. Each piece seems to revisit a previously posed question and take it to another territory, another material, or a new form of representation.

At the heart of this investigation, bodies, silences, and sparsely inhabited spaces appear recurrently. This is not, however, a formal repetition, but rather an insistence understood as a form of fidelity to certain questions. Martínez returns to them without seeking a definitive answer, aware that some issues only reveal their true depth when grappled with over years.

Their figures evoke a unique sense of both intimacy and strangeness. They are bodies that seem recognizable and, at the same time, defy any concrete identity. They need no history or biography to explain them. They remain before the viewer as open presences, situated in a territory where the body ceases to be merely that which identifies a person and becomes instead a space of questioning.

This idea of presence runs through the different works brought together in the exhibition. It can appear in a figure that silently focuses its gaze, in a fragmented body, in a void, or in an object that retains the trace of an absence. Even when the figure disappears, that which sustains it remains present and shifts to other elements of the work.
