Bonart Internacional issue 3 is presented today at the MAMM in Medellín
A new edition that connects different geographies of contemporary creation and dedicates special attention to artists, institutions and projects in the Colombian cultural ecosystem.
The Museum of Modern Art of Medellín (MAMM) is hosting today, September 22, the presentation of issue 3 of Bonart Internacional , a new edition that broadens the magazine's perspective towards different geographies and ecosystems of contemporary creation, with special attention to Colombia and the vitality of its artistic and cultural fabric. The meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m., is part of Bonart 's desire to establish bridges between contexts, artists, institutions, collecting, research and mediation, understanding contemporary culture as a territory of connections rather than as a sum of isolated scenes.
The presentation will bring together Alejandro Tobón, artist who stars in one of the magazine's approaches and author of the cover of Bonart , Gustavo Villa, collector, Silvana Tobón, cultural manager and art researcher, María del Rosario Escobar, director of the Museo de Antioquia, Christian Padilla, historian and curator, and Ricard Planas, director and founder of Bonart . A plurality of voices that allows us to approach the current moment of Colombian art from different perspectives and to relate artistic practice with institutions, research, collecting and new forms of cultural production.
The cover of Bonart Internacional is starring De la manta al mudéjar (2023), by Alejandro Tobón, an installation or assemblage built from found objects that synthesizes much of the tensions between memory, territory, identity and transformation that run through contemporary Colombian creation. In parallel, the cover of Malart presents Ecos del cerro Kwet Tul (Kwet tul wejxa sxwa'w) (2026), by Sandra Rengifo and Kostas Tsanakas, a proposal that expands this dialogue towards other ways of understanding landscape, memory and the relationship between art and community.
The focus on Colombia occupies a central space in this new issue and offers a plural journey through artists, projects, institutions and independent spaces. María del Rosario Escobar writes Desde Medellín, arte y comunidad se unen , an approach to the role of the city and its institutions in the construction of a cultural ecosystem that has gradually acquired international projection. Carlos Rojas Cocoma writes about the Body and Gaze in the work of Leonel Castañeda , while Sigrid Castañeda addresses the project of Sandra Rengifo and Kostas Tsanakas through Ecos del cerro Kwet Tul . Silvana Tobón Cardona approaches the work of Alejandro Tobón in Monumentos del futuro , and Christian Padilla explores the links between creation and counterculture in Altares y contracultura .
The Colombian tour also incorporates spaces and practices that help to understand the complexity of the country's artistic scene. Jerson Murillo presents Espacio KB: Más de 10 años sin dormir , while Alex Brahim reflects on the relationships between art, mediation and the public sphere in Producir la frontera . The set configures a cartography that avoids a single reading of Colombian creation and foregrounds the diversity of discourses, generations, territories and ways of understanding artistic practice.
This look at Colombia is, however, part of a broader editorial proposal. Issue 3 of Bonart Internacional unfolds a transversal perspective that connects contemporary art centers in South America with the Mediterranean, Spain, Portugal and the United States. The magazine thus constructs a map of correspondences in which geographical distances cease to be rigid borders and begin to function as spaces for dialogue, exchange and contrast.
